Mission
Statement
The African Women Economic Consortium is a nonprofit
501(C)( 3) organization founded in 2002 as an
organization of women of diverse social, educational,
and spiritual backgrounds who have recognized
the need for proactive action for change in the
lives of women and children locally, nationally,
and globally. Our mission is to enrich and empower
families through our housing initiative, the AWEC
Village of Hope. In Africa, the AWEC Village of
Hope will provide housing, schools, clinics, and
cottage industry such as basket weaving, farming,
and irrigation in communities ravaged by poverty,
disease, and orphan epidemic and for vulnerable
women. In the United States, the Village of Hope
–FOUNDATIONS will provide specialized housing
for youth aging out of the Foster Care system,
mentoring, and academic tutoring.
Our TRIAD (Problem Solving and Risk Management,
Grant Writing and Financial Literacy workshops)
is a three day workshop, designed to teach the
skills necessary to achieve personal, business,
and academic results for women. However, everyone
is welcome.
AWEC sponsors an annual benefit Awards Luncheon,
called” Against All Odds” that honors
people who have achieved excellence in medicine,
business, academic, social, philanthropic and
humanitarian endeavors, and spiritual work to
help humanity despite immense obstacles.
